Best Introduction to International Law

I am an experienced lawyer with no background in international law. I had read the 2d edition of Janis' book some years ago and was looking for a more comprehensive treatment. I started with Shaw's book and found the writing turgid (to use a turgid work) and then tried Brownlie's, which was somewhat better but didn't seem worth the effort. (Brownlie authored a chapter in the present book.) This book is just right. Well organized, comprehensive, and clearly written. As with most edited works, the chapters vary in quality, but even in the weaker ones the topic is adequately covered.

Complete technical reference

I bought this to learn more about building materials--wood, stone, concrete, metals--and was not disappointed. Each chapter begins with a summary that's authoritative but friendly. And interesting. You'll learn, for example, that the trick to making a hydraulic cement is to add some siliceous mineral to the limestone before firing in a kiln. The Romans used volcanic rock; modern Portland cement producers find it in certain clays. You'll realize none of these materials can stand up to water, which eventually returns them to their more chemically stable states, changing concrete into limestone, smelted metals back to ores (rust), and turning wood into food for other living things.
What follows the introductory discussion is probably too technical for non-professionals--references to ASTM standards, specifications for water jet delivery in gallons per minute and PSI when cleaning stone, and tips for making your own epoxy using bulk chemicals, complete with Dow Chemical part numbers.
I was a little disappointed by the presentation--B/W photos by the author and very basic drawings--but I suppose that's all that's needed for a book like this.

Conserving Buildings

This book tells you how best to conserve either historic buildings or modern buildings. It shows how insects may be a problem, how pollution can affect buildings, and then goes on to explain how best to approach various restoration issues. The book covers plaster and concrete, architectural metals, and brickwork, to name a few. In a way it is like what you might hear on This Old House or some other renovation television program.

There may be a limited target audience for a book like this, but having it on the bookshelf of the Facilities Manager may be a wise investment.

Lo que pienso es que estaba mas o menos y que se los recomendamos a los adultos y a los ninos. Tambien ensena muchas cosas de amistad y amigos.
I think that the book was pretty good and I recommend it to adults and children. Also, it teaches many things about friendship and friends.

Sarah's at a new place!

In Sarah plain and Tall, I think the open prarie is the most important part of the setting. Reason being, where Sarah comes from, there's buildings, air pollution, roads, and it's crowded. All though, in a prarie, there is trees instead of buildings, fresh air instead of pollution, grass instead of roads, and all the space instead of it being crowded. I didn't really like the book because it's only 58 pages long. I'd recommend this to ages 6 through 10.

Worth the small investment

Very informative. I recently became an accounting tutor and this is perfect to brush up on some accounting topics I haven't studied in a few years (Yes, funny. An accounting tutor ordering an accounting for dummies book). But it refreshes my memory and includes a lot of content for not an expensive price tag. Worth the buy!

For those who fell asleep in Principles of Management class

Simple and in layman's terms, as the book promises on the cover. It covers stuff with some examples and analogies to make things easier and sometimes more entertaining to learn and comprehend. I would recommend this book to those who are starting their own business.

Both Monica and Amanda have shunned long-term romantic relationships because of their unknown fate; bitter Monica plays it safe and vibrant Amanda takes every chance with young, one-night-stands. Yet the girls and their father never lose their sense of humor. As the play unfolds, both women have met men they'd like to get serious with and the knowledge of the test both repels and attracts them: Amanda, desperate for the answer and Monica, in morbid fear of it. Could I Have this Dance? is ultimately about love and cherishing what life we are given. This is a deeply romantic play about difficult choices.
