Fingerpicking Book of Excellence!

Brett Duncan covers fingerpicking from the basics through professional level. The book assumes no prior knowledge of guitar playing, so it's definitely a must have for those who are just beginning to learn guitar. Coupled with a guitar music theory book, you have a complete learn-on-your-own classroom to become a very experienced and polished guitar player. I have been playing guitar for about 2 years now, and there was so much I was missing out on because I did not have basic fingerpicking skills. Anyone can play rock-n-roll, blues, bluegrass, country, and jazz licks, but they get rather old and stale pretty fast. If you want to learn how to play acoustic guitar (harmony with melody and rhythm), then this is the right book for you. Also, on my list is the other book by Brett Duncan entitled "Acoustic Guitar Manual" which is essential to add to your library of guitar books. If you purchase Fingerpicking and the Acoustic Guitar Manual books together, and actually complete all the exercises in both books, then I promise you that you will become a professional level player. After 2 years of playing licks, I can now play classical, bluegrass, jazz, country, and many other styles completely (not just simple licks over licks over licks). The bottom line here folks is that you get what you you put forth in effort, and this book is one that is necessary while being A VALUE FOR THE MONEY!!!

Not only for the CEH exam

This book is great. Why? Well it's not just because its a great study guide for the CEH exam (Certified Ethical Hacker), but also for the amount of info crammed into a small book. If you're wanting to learn the basics of ethical hacking, then this is the book. Its a quick read, packed full of interesting workable senarios.

What this book is:
1. A great book for your junior security people.
2. Very easy to work through the chapters as labs.
3. Lots of references to cool programs you can find and download.

What this book isn't:
1. Your not going to learn any code.
2. If you're already a better than average hacker this book is not for you.
3. You won't get CEH certified with this book as a stand alone.
4. You do need a basic understanding of networking, security and systems. (This book isnt hacking for dummies).

CEH in a nutshell

If you want to go for the CEH certification this book is a pretty good companion. It touches all the objectives for 312-50. But most of the time it's done in just a few lines. So you'll need additional training or bring a lot of experience to pass the CEH exam. If you realy want to know more about ethical hacking and/or penetration testing try the Offensive Security training by the makers of Backtrack.

I find this to be a very important summary review guide, it is only 200 pages.It goes to the core of the CEH exam requisites.

There are other books that you should also use, other books, just don't depend on one book. The following is a detailed book with about 50 or so labs, you need to start using the tools of the trade, and this book will start you off from get go.

The book came with 5 large USED BOOK stickers posted all over the front and back cover, damaging the cover of the book. Further, the stickers were impossible to take off. One sticker would have been fine, but receiving a text covered in stickers is completely unnecessary.

Charles Dickens wrote the story in 1843, and viewed from the distance of almost two centuries, his language is dense and over-wrought. Do you need long descriptions of Victorian London? I don't think so --- you've seen it a zillion times on film and TV. Because I really wanted my daughter to know "A Christmas Carol," I edited the text. It was 28,000 words. It's now 13,000. Nothing important is gone. I added only a few words of my own, just to make some connections. And Paige Peterson, a noted artist, has enriched the story with original --- and very striking --- illustrations. This version of “A Christmas Carol” is pure story. And what a story! I’m going to read it to our daughter at Christmas, and this time I bet she’ll like it. It’s my hope that many other kids and their parents will too.

I can honestly say that I am so pleased with this version

I am a 7th grade teacher of students who struggle with comprehension, yet it is in the curriculum to read A Christmas Carol. For several years now I have struggled with the story and worked hard to help them understand all the vocabulary and symbolizm. When I saw this version, I thought for the price it would be worth checking out. I can honestly say that I am so pleased with this version. The abridged version still allows for many powerful discussions, and many vocabulary words for the students to explore. I decided I would read it aloud since I can't afford a copy for each of my students. We gather around on the carpet and I read. They have shown such interest, I have never had that happen in previous years. I think it is wonderful that my less than perfect readers will be able to understand the valuable theme in the story, and when they go on the field trip to see the play, they will finally be able to understand what is happening on stage! Thank you Mr. Kornbluth for this wonderful, readable version of a loved Christmas classic!!!
